Changes in RES grid connecting discussed at the Renewable Energy Areopagus
The Renewable Energy Areopagus is a meeting of RES industry players, scientists, NGO experts, and representatives of regulating bodies. This year's Areopagus was held on December 11-12, 2024, on the premises of the Warsaw School of Economics. Sevivon PNE was represented at the event by Łukasz Łuczak, Grid Solutions Expert.
During the debate ‘Grid package - regulatory changes in grid access and cooperation’, Łukasz Łuczak commented on the proposal to reduce the time frame for concluding a grid connection agreement to 30 days. He pointed out that such a short deadline would make it impossible for the RES investors to responsibly sign a connection agreement. This regulation would therefore introduce unneeded uncertainty to the sector. Other panelists also stressed the way these proposals were introduced raises many doubts: they were included in the Distribution Grid Operation and Maintenance Manual without extensive consultations with the industry.
At the same time, efforts are underway to create systemic solutions. Referring to that, Sevivon's expert pointed out that working groups at the Polish Electricity Transmission and Distribution Society (PTPiREE) and other industry organizations are drafting entire regulatory packages. It might be therefore worth it to introduce the non-controversial changes as soon as possible, while continuing to work on optimal solutions to the remaining complex issues.
